another mostly instrumental album........ but this one i like best imo out of the others i've listened to now.
very interesting where my mind went to trying to find a frame of comparison for this album, the song Aquarius in particular reminds me a lot of King Geedorah's Monster Zero (if it didn't have all the talking) and other MF DOOM instrumental skits/tracks whatever you wanna call them.
Imo a lot of the songs got pretty repetitive after a while but I understand that this isn't an album you probably should be locked in and listening to actively, it's something for the car as oomf said, or on in the background.
I would love to know a bit more lore about it though, the last track with that message about "exercising constitutional rights", did something happen or is that just for aura. Either way, it's pretty nice as a closer I think, great album oomf...

Okay hiiiii, this album is very interesting. I think it's very very close to something I'd bump everyday but some of it sounds a bit hollow? I think between some of the production it feels a bit empty??? I don't really know how else to explain it other than that.
My favourite song is probably "Immaterial" just because it feels like the most 'song' on the album? The rest kinda sounds like there's something missing... Not to talk shit on it because I still enjoyed listening to it a ton, it's a very new sound and it's one of those albums I'm probably gonna be humming to myself and then putting on a song to listen to in a moment. That's how most of my favourite albums came to be my most listened (esp Death Grips) so I guess only time will tell. :P

Really enjoyed this album! I think it starts off a bit weak and I can't get over 3rd track sounding kinda like KSI 😭😭 😭 and I wish I could speak more on the genre but I'm soo inexperienced when it comes to Indie Rock but I really liked the slow passages in between of the higher energy stuff, I'm not sure why but it sounds very.. Classic Rock? I really don't know but it sounds like an older style of rock which surprised me because it was released in 2018, the album cover especially is giving more older? Idk. But this is great album! Has a place in my playlist :P

So I understand now why when I told one of my friends I was listening to Olivia Rodrigo that she told me to listen to SOUR because she claimed that that's the best album. And I understand now listening to having listened to it, what she meant by that. It's quite different though.
The theme is the same, dealing with an ex, but the vibe is completely different from both albums. In Guts she was not afraid to say what she was actually thinking, and in SOUR it's all very somber, which makes a great album, but that's the part that I enjoyed about Guts the most, is that unashamed anger and saying the things that might seem obsessive, but if you've sort of gone through this, you know how it feels when stuff like that happens.
My favorite song is actually deja vu because she does this very interesting thing at the beginning of it where she sort of describes this scene of her and her ex, with the ice cream, and the jackets, and I thought that it's going to be a song reminiscing about how you know things were better when she was with him.
But then she goes off and start talking about how that person would do the same thing with his new girlfriend and it's very interesting how it takes your expectations to another area that I personally wasn't expecting.

So my friend recommended this for me, and I think that it's an okay album, but I realize I don't really like funk that much, I don't know. It sounds very, the way I described it was it sounds like music that a happy person always has playing in their head. Not necessarily that that's a bad thing, It's just not for me.
I do enjoy some of the music and what it does with the production and stuff but again I don't really have any point of comparison because I've not heard anything similar and so I don't really know if it's anything different than what is typically done within the genre or the artist.
The phrase I would use to describe it is "happy-go-lucky" from my untrained ears where I've historically listened to a lot of hip hop and stuff. It's a very different vibe than I'm used to and that's what's tripping me up a bit haha. It's pretty nice to throw on though. ❤️ Thanks for the rec oomf :P

Let me just start off by saying that women on TikTok have it figured out. They just have it figured out for everything about music. I really, really enjoyed listening to it like a lot.
But one thing that this album made me realize is that the sort of past me really enjoys stuff about like large concepts and like things I was sort of outside of my knowledge or perspective and now I'm definitely realizing that I like stuff that reflects my perspective and experiences now, and growing a bit older means that I finally Have those experiences.
Don't get me wrong, the albums with cliches and sort of the classic like popular radio music type stuff like for example in vampire, it's all done with not just sadness but there's a lot of confidence and I don't want to say arrogance, but that it's kind of that, it sort of gives you a window into someone's thoughts and life that sort of sanitized normal music would be too ashamed to even put out there and I really really appreciate that about it.
My favourite song "bad idea right?" the self awareness, the "fuck it it's fine"-ness of it. It's incredibly good, and catchy! Thanks for the rec oomf!!!!! Some of these songs are defo going in a playlist 😭

Great album! I realllyy loved the production and being able to pick out all the little things that I've heard before (I'm afraid to call them "influences" because I'm unsure if that's what's going on) but it's like I can compare almost every song to something I've heard before, and there's a lot of fun in doing that :P
It's not anything super special or unique but it's just unique enough and I guess "sensible" enough for me to actually enjoy. I'd like it to be a bit more on the experiment side of things (I think Exmilitary by Death Grips as a comparison is apt) but that's just my personal taste.

I was excited going in, having never heard MIKE but loving Earl Sweatshirt. Didn't know who SURF GANG was either but knew that I'd probably enjoy their stuff, I've listened to a lot of Earl in the past, mainly though it's been Some Rap Songs. That's one of my favourite albums from a strange period in my life when I was still figuring a lot out.
As for the music, I think it's repetitive. I hate to say it but I just didn't enjoy it, not a lot happened, I think I might be missing something? I didn't post the review day of because I wanted to spend some more time actually listening to it but, on another listen-through of it last night and a few songs today, I don't get it. It's good but it's not as earth shattered as I thought it'd be. Maybe I was expecting too much :P
So when I was six or seven years old, sorry, I moved houses and just for a term of school I would have to be driven to school by my dad (which wasn't normal in London). But it would be me with my brother in the car and we would listen to Capital FM and this album reminded of that time period. And that's not a bad thing. I did find it quite nice to sort of go back to that memory and experience it again.
But it's kind of just a popular pop album. And that's not necessarily bad. I enjoyed it quite a bit but a lot of it was the same stuff I've heard before, with the exception of a few moments of difference with "You" that had kind of a country type thing (I think?), enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
And my favourite song: Violent Chemistry, just because it's a bit more upbeat and different from the rest but it's kind of looking for what's most similar to what you already like in something that's not very similar? Idk. Either way cool album, enjoyed listening through casually. :P

This album was great! I really did enjoy listening through it, the song that still stands out most to me is still the 2nd track, that uses samples from old Yamaha keyboards that were used for teaching in every music class in the UK 😭
The production on Gravity's Rainbow really stood out to me, I think its just that the lyrics resonate with me. It sounds a bit nostalgic to me, but unsure why? It's very weird. Either way, thank you oomf for the recommendation!!

Okay, so I didn't enjoy this album at all. The lore behind this album is that someone just found a random CD in their dad's drawer or something, and then they just ripped it and put on Bandcamp, and there was no information about it ever. And as much of a cool thing it is that it's archived, that's where the interesting part stops because the music kind of sucks.
I really don't like the production; I don't like the lyrics. I'm not much of a music critic, but, uh, it's very barebones. It reminds me of scrappy old Minecraft parody, like when they were first, like, getting off the ground; I can't really explain it other than that.
I think my favorite song was probably "Cuban Cigar." I really liked what the production was doing, and then the lyrics just went, "we're buying scratch tickets in the back of a car we're all smoking on a big Cuban cigar," and it felt like Minecraft parody music. Like, instead of scratch tickets and Cuban cigars, you could replace it with "gathering iron and finding diamonds," and it'll be exactly the same.
