wondering if i should sell all my old canon gear and buy from a new brand or buy an adapter for my current lenses (which are nothing special or expensive tbh) and buy a canon mirrorless body.

like, old EF lenses are pretty affordable rn used, buying a Canon mirrorless + adapter might be worth, but would that save me more money in the long run than if i had gone with something like Sony that has more 3rd party stuff

@autumn i lowk want an old f-mount nikon bc 50 years of compatible lenses to choose from is so goated

but also autofocus is nice actually and in that realm minolta af mount (aka sony a mount) only got beaten to the market by pentax and nikon both of which came up with bulky motor-in-lens designs they wound up abandoning

now admittedly sony has also abandoned the a mount but thats cause they're stupid chuds and i hate them

@autumn and they did it like 15 years later than pentax which was another like 10 years later than nikon

@coolbean honestly from all the stuff i've been looking at, there's a lot of used EF(-S) mount stuff that's almost native with the new Canon mirrorless stuff with an adapter that's like 50 pounds and the lenses are soooo much cheaper than the alternate RF (obv) but also the newer Sony ones used. (which use an E mount that's open to 3rd party manufacturers). i think buying new from Sony is probably the best but i'm a buy-used gremlin so i think this is the best option. i found a 50-250mm EF-S lens used for like 100 pounds

@autumn i saw an eos 1000 at a flea market a few weeks ago and feel like a fool not having bought it now

i also saw some minolta SLRs at a second hand shop a while back, i might return for those 50/50 for the sake of having a film camera and for the sake of having more than one lens

@coolbean oohhhh EOS 1000 would've be interesting... and yes get more lenses with what you've already got they're awesome. i actually started the hobby with a 50mm f/1.8 and no kit lens which was kinda limiting but suuuper fun

i think the worst thing about a mount is that i cant find any pancake lenses. i want something compact dang it i look like such a dweeb with my big ol kit lens

and then it only goes to 50mm too like what the fuck

@autumn tbf its an aps-c sensor so itd be vaguely equivalent to 80mm on a full size

still id rather have an 18-75 or something like that so i can do crazy portaiture

@coolbean yeah yeah but still it's like, i mean the 50mm is adequately "zoomed in" to the point where you need more distance from a subject than you'd think, but it leaves sooo much to desire

@coolbean i actually was looking at two other cameras that are full-frame sensors and similar prices used (EOS R & EOS RP) but i never realised that the lenses are different lmao i really thought they'd just be the same
