anyone know any software i can use to zero out an SSD, i tried using dban but i think it's only for legacy BIOS now and my surface pro doesn't support that. do i just have to make a live USB and use dd?

booted up the random ubuntu liveUSB i had on my ventoy and just used GNOME disks. I think when I install windows on it there's also an option to zero it out?

wanna do 2 passes just to be safe, not that i had a lot of private data on this device or anything but better safe than sorry.

thank the lord for SSDs btw i remember doing shit like this on SD Cards and HDDs (not exactly zero-ing out, just restoring drive images and whatnot) and it takes so fucking long, for SSDs it's like 30 minutes.

@autumn personally id try doing one of the first two methods on wiki.archlinux.org/title/Solid_state_drive/Memory_cell_clearing to avoid slightly wearing out the ssd with the writes

@unnick i'm already 70% through doing the first method, but i wanted to do 2 runs so i'll do the native nvme command too
