METAL LAPTOPS SUCK
FUCK YOU
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE PLASTIC ON PORTABLE DEVICES
-doesn't get freezing when the surrounding environment is cold
-doesn't get dented
-doesn't get scratched as easily
-doesn't flash blind you when the sun hits it
-like 2$ to replace if you break it
-weights less

@halva
not when it's dented (unfixable)
not when it's scratched (unfixable)
not when it's dirty (constantly)
not when you're blinded by the sun reflecting off it (unfixable)

@doskel on the last one, that's just a design issue i think, not a metal thing

my current laptop is fully aluminum but it's not polished too hard so it doesn't reflect sunlight very well

while my old laptop used to blind me with its stupid fake metal paint on its very plastic palmrest

@halva idk most of my experience with metal devices is macbooks or my framework and they're borderline unusable in sunlight

@doskel ive a thinkbook g6+ and its only reflective metal parts are the lenovo logos and the thinkbook logo on the shell

everything else basically reflects no sunlight at all

@halva @doskel metal thinkpads are great because they're all black too and the finish never seems to rub off (i had an x1 carbon 2nd gen with a tough life before me and i couldn't see any of the raw metal underneath) ive never had the framework issue though, mainly because 400 nits isnt good enough for me to see the screen in sunlight

@autumn @halva (out of curiosity did you set your system to light mode when using it in sunlight)

@doskel @halva yeah but even then i can barely see it, like same goes with my phone and thats supposedly 800nits, i think my eyes just suck

@doskel @halva i mean i CAN use it outside but i can't be directly in the sun, even with the sun facing away from me its usable but darker things i still need to squint for. the glossy screen also doesn't help.

if you've got a matte screen or the high refresh (since its 500nits) then its a lot better of an experience i assume
