why doesnt anyone support amd gpus for compute?! the developers are just lazy and only want to use CUDA!!!!
The windows compatible version of ROCm isn’t the full ROCm, it’s missing components found on the Linux version so some programs that do work with ROCm on Linux don’t on windows.

@halva funnily enough i think the latest versions of cuda don't natively support windows at all, and need you to run it through WSL. that's something that one of my uni friends was dealing with during his dissertation

@halva or you know what, it might have been for his specific GPU. i think he had a 20-series mobile. i think he ended up taking the L and training his shit on CPU overnight

@autumn setting up AMD gpus with WSL is also a pain in the ass since you need to install their dumbass proprietary driver and nobody wants to ever use it

@halva i think about a year or 2 ago it was actually still a pain in the ass to do on anything other than the official OSes, i remember for my dissertation i was using ROCm and i had to install ubuntu onto my PC for a while to make sure it worked, i think after a few months though i tried again with a distrobox arch container and it was fine again.

It's Pain all the way down.
