different hostname for each device or different hostname for function?

(e.g a desktop PC that has all different parts used to replace an old one would have all the same or different parts?)

im in function camp, i pass my hostnames down to different devices, when i replaced my desktop i still called it the same thing because i do the same stuff with it, and same with laptop

(that was until i switched my naming scheme and now it's all different, but im probably gonna keep on doing that for simplicity sake)
