should i migrate my server from a 2014 mac mini to my desktop to make it faster but risk breaking everything because it's my desktop that i use often or just leave it
@trinkey maybe offset some stuff to smaller devices, like i've got my main big server and then my instance, atproto pds and website are hosted on a rpi
@autumn the thing is this 2014 mac mini is the only device i have that can really function as a server... i don't have any like pis or spare pcs or whatnot. like i have a shit laptop that takes like 5 minutes to startup but that's not a server
if things are idling most of the time then i think that's fine, i'm one of those people that completely turns off a PC when i stop using it so that would never work for me.
there could be some issues where your server stuff might impact desktop performance or vice versa but i don't think it's been a massive issue for me in the past (like i used to host minecraft servers and play mc on the same machine back in the day and not notice any slowdowns)
@autumn might have been a miscommunication on my part but the mac mini is my dedicated server and my desktop is the computer i actually use, but yeah i'll just leave it how it is for now not worth breaking something for marginal benifits
