i know theres lineageos but i want my phone to do cool shit . i know i can root but i don't exactly trust myself with root more in the "banking and whatever apps" sense and i know theres methods to hide root but also like the "hardware verification" side and shit
i know theres custom forks of lineage or whatever with the cool shit minus root but to find one that looks nice
theres also just plain old graphene too i suppose

@sneexy you might need to try out a few custom roms with your banking apps btw, im running grapheneOS with no root or anything and my banking app still wont let me login for whatever reason. it thinks im rooted which im not. i think its specifically just my bank's app that does this too because the other bank im with doesn't care.

@autumn @sneexy i think it says its rooted because graphene doesn't pass play integrity. so even though it's objectively more secure than anything else bank apps don't see that since they use play integrity instead of hardware attestation

@inderix @sneexy oh that explains so much. and that also sucks too but i guess sandboxed gapps can't really do stuff like that(?)

@autumn @inderix @sneexy they can do hardware attestation which is the open alternative to play integrity (which usually just boils down to Did Google like this ROM and is the bootloader unlocked)

there is almost certainly a way around it but starting a cat and mouse game with google to unlock apps this crucial to a person's life is usually a Bad Idea

@autumn @inderix @sneexy i'm also pretty sure they're taking google to court over play integrity because many manufacturer roms are missing security features but google still approves them and makes them pass play integrity with flying colors it isn't really even a security mechanism it's just the Google Device Approval API
