its small shit like this that makes me so suspicious of apps like this, like WhatsApp will also ask you for SMS access so that when you receive the verification code it'll automatic paste it into the app, but it will retain that access until you revoke it AND it doesn't even have any SMS features so there's genuinely no good reason for this.
and the app is designed in such a way that if you don't give it access to the contact permissions it will only show your contacts as phone numbers, not the built in username that they choose for themselves (like Signal does) the entire app just asks you for permissions it doesn't need. its so dodgy.
whatsapp is such fucking bullshit lmao, even if an app doesn't have access to files you're still able to use the share menu to upload a photo to it, but when you try to do that it won't let you until you give it storage access. where it will then happily accept photos from other folders on the device that i didn't give it access to (since im using storage scopes to limit what it has access to)
